“Soya’s Plan: Choosing YouTube Over Uni, BTS Of Making A Video”
Kelly Pang, Hew Weng Yan, Nguyen Do Thuc Anh
Guest: Soya
To start off, I must say I like the way the group presents the podcast. The group shows enthusiasm when they are speaking to the guest. Every member has a fair share of questions to ask the guest. From the guest speaker, Soya, I learnt some interesting ways on how she come up with her videos. Like all content creators, with passion and a goal anything is possible.
From this podcast, I learnt something that every creator does, they are get their inspiration of ideas at very different places for example when relaxing, taking a walk in the park, showering etc.
For me, I also do make videos during my free time and having to know that I am not the only one who have this habit of getting inspiration makes it very comforting. Soya also mentioned the steps of editing her videos too, I can relate to her when she says that putting in subtitle is very tiring. For my own podcast, “The Medley Show; In The Business”, all my members were to listen to the recoding and give the draft of what they heard, that is not it I will have to be the one listening to the podcast again from head to toe and type it out and sync the audio with the words using Final Cut.
In addition, when soya says that she adds sound effects into her videos I find it a necessity. When we have a 30 minutes vlog without effects, sound and background music it will be very boring and blend. For me when I film and edit a video, I will always have a draft in my head, and I will draw out the scene and that is the same as what Soya did. It is much easier to edit at the end as there is a guideline.
Soya also says that everyone called her talented but to her it is just her knowing everything in bites which to her is something that she needs to find as her ambition. Surprisingly, I can relate, and I am pretty sure a lot of my friends who is studying in media can connect too. When we decide to take up this Media Communication as a degree, all of us have different plan when we start to work. For me I am interested in making film, acting or working as a public relation person who work alongside with celebrities. I also do some vlogs but just to experiment and let my creative juice flow.
For the challenges, Covid-19 plays a very important part for the content creators’ workflow for 2020. Lucky for Soya, she is currently in Taiwan where it is still free for people to roam around. That’s an advantage for her as the content made does not need to be restricted.
Soya also mentioned that she joined a YouTube company that have some celebrities who will come to them and she will have to interview them. I think it is a good way for a YouTuber to have this kind of background for the future as she is able to cope and understand how things function during an interview/ interaction with the celebrity.
In conclusion, I learnt that being a YouTuber is not as easy as it seems it includes hard work and self-discipline. However, being a YouTuber and being a film producer is still very different.
